Looking for Mr. and Mrs. "Pennsylvania 9.84"
Somebody in Pennsylvania who is looking to install a solar power system in Pennsylvania needs our help. We've had a very helpful commenter from Pennsylvania who had a 9.84 kW system installed in May. This new commenter would like to find out about what company did that installation. I have to say, after perusing the internet for info on this subject this blog has been the most helpful. It's relevance to my situation is great and the focus on the minutia of this undertaking is greatly appreciated. I have never commented on a blog before so I am unsure of the process/protocol. That being said, my comment/question is in regard to my very recent intrest and inquiry into solar. I live in central Jersey. I have read alot of opinions, facts(hopefully) and general information to feel somewhat comfortable discussing it. Last week I had a representative from Mercury Solar pay me a visit. He was a very nice guy and gave a comprehensive and professional presentation. The numbers he proposed in his "solar financial feasibility study" seemed viable and ultimately profitable. I immediately had the "it's to good to be true feeling" wash over me. Just wondering if anyone following this blog has met or dealt with Mercury Solar. If so, could you please offer any and all pos/neg feedback on them. If possible would it be ok for me to post the numbers I was quoted for feedback from all of the current solarites following this blog?

I'm glad you find this blog useful. While I don't pretend to be an expert on the technical aspects of solar (and don't want to be one), I think I'm filling a need here. It's practical information on what happens, who does what, how to get things going, etc. It always helps that smarter and more knowledgeable people weigh in to add to or correct anything in our discussions.
As far as I'm concerned, everybody is free to post anything and everything. This blog is a clearinghouse for questions and advice.
As a matter of fact, I'm planning on posting your comment as a separate post because I think a lot of readers are feeling the same way you are...

I am the owner of the 9.84kW system installed in PA. We used Mercury solar for our installation. At the time we signed our contract the company was EOS solar. Unfortunately, we suffered the side effects of their growing pains during the time of our install. Hopefully things are running smoother these days. As an update to my previous comments, right before the end of the year we FINALLY received our state rebate funds (Current rebate levels available are now a fraction of what we received as all but Tier IV funds have been exhausted). We are registered and now selling our SRECs (Last auction of PA SRECs by SREC Trade sold ours for $200). Our system generates approximately one SREC/month. And it appears that the excess power we generate(that we do not use) doesn't carry month to month with our electric provider. Hopefully we'll receive some compensation at the end of the solar year, but that remains to be seen.
