Lowered All my SREC Minimums

There's a lot of talk about changing the SREC market to address the glut. for now, though, prices are what they are. I have 4 SRECs in hand and I just lowered my minimum asking price to $200 for today's auction. I'll bet they all sell...

If you are willong to take 200, then go over to Flett Exchange, where they are currently going at $235.

Dave...raise it up to $250 or so at least...we need to assert some control back and try to get these prices back up to where they should be. In my opinion, even with the market the way it is, these SRECs should be going for somewhere between $300-400 easily. The aggregators and utilities are taking advantage of a weak market and the panic that has ensued amongst NJ solar generators/owners. Personally right now i am refusing to sell mine for anything less than $300, and I do expect that within the next couple of months, the prices will reach this level. Let's hope at least...

Thanks, SS. You are way more on top of this than I am. Last time I think I came up with about $235 as well.

That's interesting about the aggregators and utilities taking advantage of panic-stricken people like me :-) Maybe I will bump the price back up...

Well, it turns out that I have to change my minimums the day before the auction or they don't take effect. 0 Sales!

I agree with SS that aggregators and utilities can easily take advantage of panic in the markets. We saw this at the end of 2011 trading when prices dropped from $640 to $475, even though the numbers indicated a significant shortage of SRECs. Early in the 2012 trading period, it seemed this way as prices dropped as low as $140 in some markets. They have since rebounded and remained steady in the low- to mid-$200s. The problem is that the installation numbers indicate a significant oversupply of SRECs in 2012, as well as now in 2013. We also know that with the cost of solar coming down, mid-$200 SREC prices work - whereas $140 definitely would not - this indicates staying power at this price level. That said, a legislative change can fix this and it seems the Governor recently threw his support behind such a fix. I suspect even the notion that Christie supports this will lead to a bump in pricing! The SREC markets are impossible to predict. We always encourage our customers to look at the numbers and make their own decisions with respect to their SRECs. You can always find this information on our blog: SRECTrade.com/blog. I would recommend subscribing to it by email.
